| subject: | Gun Ownership in Iraq |
RJT>VH> Did they tell you who the people buying the guns ARE? RJT>Of course not. Those who do such filming are never gonna give out all the RJT>details, they're trying to create an impression here -- one invoving a lot RJT>body bags heading this way... Nor do they tell what happens afterwards. I bet if they checked serial numbers, the same gun gets sold over and over again. :-) RJT>VH> Remember, in Northern Ireland, possession of a firearm was RJT>VH> punishable by serious prison time -- A group of boys riding in a RJT>VH> car were all sent to prison when an unloaded .22 pistol was found RJT>VH> in the car -- and it wasn't necessary to prove they knew it was RJT>VH> there. RJT>I hadn't heard about that, but it's no surprise. And yet you still hear t RJT>about them "settling" things there by "having the IRA give up their guns"! Yeah -- they think the Nationalists have forgotten how they DID give up their guns (in 1964) and by 1969 were engaged -- with no weapons -- in a full-scale war for their very survival. RJT>VH> (One of the boys was Bobby Sands, who after 14 years in prison for RJT>VH> that offense, led the hunger strike of 1980-81.) RJT>VH> At the same time, the B-Specials, a civilian group affliated with RJT>VH> the police and numbering a hundred thousand or so men, were ISSUED RJT>VH> firearms. Many of these men moonlighted as Unionist terrorists, of RJT>VH> course. RJT>Nothing biased in that situation, is there? Nope, not a thing. :-) RJT>VH> There is no nerve gas in Iraq? The inspectors have found some!! RJT>VH> They have found the warheads it would be loaded in. They have RJT>VH> found missiles to carry it to other nations? RJT>Seems to me I recall some mention recently of a site out there in the deser RJT>where the image conveyed sure wasn't enough to indicate *anything* conclusi RJT>unless you really took a forensics approach to it, but yet that's not wher RJT>the burden in this situation lies... That's right -- we know he HAD these things. We know WE (or the UN) did not destroy them. The burden is on him to prove they're gone. RJT>I don't believe that the average citizen there can easily walk in and buy t RJT>type of firearms they're talking about, not for a minute! RJT>Got another thing that hit the news here yesterday, somewhat more local in RJT>scope, and this one's a real hoot. RJT>It seems that there are some state workers that aren't real happy. They ge RJT>hassled on the job, they get threatened in the parking lot, and they even RJT>at least one case) get calls at home. But in at least one instance, that RJT>the state's "Department of Environmental Protection", they're not allowed RJT>do anything about it. Not only can't they carry at work, they can't bring RJT>along and leave it in the car, and if they're overnighting somewhere, head RJT>for a motel in their own vehicle, but on state business, they can't carry RJT>then, either. This all assumes a carry permit here, of course. You do t RJT>you get fired. This also applies even when the worker is way out in the mi RJT>of nowhere, and might have bears and other wild animals to contend with. My position is, if the state deprives you of a basic civil right, and at the same time deprives you of the means of self-defense, the state automatically assumes an absolute liability for your protection. And if enough of us say that, someday a court will rule that way. In other words, states that have reasonable gun laws, where honest people can carry with no hassle can hide behind the "collective right" theory of policing -- that no individual has a right to police protection. But states and localities that prevent you from carrying have a choice -- they can assign a cop to guard you, 24/7, or they can pay big bucks if you're the victim of a violent crime. RJT>Now it seems like this state representative from Crawford County, wherever RJT>that is, along with 23 co-sponsors, have introduced a bill that would all RJT>those with permits to carry on the job. The newspaper article was entitled RJT>"Packing Heat?", and showed a picture of somebody, face not shown, but t RJT>holster at their hip quite apparent. The exception to this would of course RJT>the state Capitol building, where as it turns out I was carrying when I wa RJT>last in there, but that was before 9-11. They also want these folks to be RJT>able to carry on their way to and from work, which is currently a no-no. RJT>Elitist assholes! Most of these people either have taxpayer-provided body guards, or are wealthy enough to have hired guards. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5* Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 123/140 500 106/2000 633/267 |
