Right you are, John... That's precisely my reason behind STP :)
Not only RF getting into the LAN, but vice-versa...
I had mixed replies from the questions I asked about that possibility, so I
decided NOT to take the chance, and it's a good thing I did - as I am
noticing a little RFI that I haven't heard b4 even WITH the STP cables. This
might be caused by the NICs I'm using at the momment NOT being STP, but I
intend to install a couple spring-steel wipers on the card-frame at each side
of the RJ-45 jack hoping that will reduce what little noise there is.
I also have an older scanner (Bearcat BC-210) that's picking up a bit of
noise as well, so perhaps this shielding project will solve that as well.
When I get to the point of stringing TP cable throughout the house, I don't
want it to interfere with the radios mentioned above or the general coverage
shortwave receivers either.
Had the hub NOT been STP, I was going to solder up a small PCB box, and use
that to enclose it, with drain wires attached from cable ends to the copper
of the PCB sides (inside), and the cables brought through slots with ferrite
beads around them on the outside.
Sincerely,
