subject: IP address and Subnet mask

Hiya Placido,
On 13-04-98, whilst lying in the gutter of the information super highway, I
heard Placido Santiago whispering to All about IP address and Subnet mask,
 PS> Hello everyone,
PS> What is the best IP address to use to a machine not connected to the
PS> NET. And also how will I assign a particular subnet mask if I will be
PS> able to choose an IP address. What is the relationship between the
 PS> two.
Dead easy this one. 192.168.1.1 with a 255.255.255.0 subnet mask. For the
relationship between the two, basically 255.255.255.0 says 24 bits for the
network and 8 bits for the host. Another common notation now is 192.168.1.1
/24
