subject: Database Transfers

Wondering if there is someone out there that might have a solution to a
problem that I have been struggling with for several years. My brother has a
small business using two computers located about 50 miles apart and needs to
do data entry/recall from both locations. We are using a floppy diskette to
transfer the database from system to system. It is all nicely automated with
BAT/CMD files and ICONS.
The problem has it that he always needs to remember which location has the
latest copy of the database and to actually remember do the update. This
seemed to go well when he was the only one to work the systems. However, he
is now employing a second person to do data-entry at a third location and
will probably need work to be done at all locations in the same day although
not simultaneously.
I have considered setting up a BBS of sorts to upload/down load the data but
this ties up a phone line with at least one system set up waiting for a call
from the other and could take 10 minutes per successful upload/download. If
anyone knows of some software that will allow Voice/FAX/answering-machine/BBS
functions, that may answer the problem.
OTOH, Using an ISP to hold the database and to either store it, or allow one
manipulate it, on-line was considered. The ISP that he is presently using
(Concentric) does not yet have the capacity to work a database on-line. We
will consider changing the ISP.
Any suggestions?
