Bryan Smith says ...
-> It is because a significant portion of the population now understands
-> the Windows idiom. I used to be a Windows non-believer, but "in
-> response to public demand", I provided a Windows interface to a suite
-> of DOS programs. Watching the users almost instinctive reaction to it
-> made a believer out of me.
well, I can't quarrel that it's penny-wise & pound-foolish to fret over
every wasted byte anymore. It does take some getting used to, though.
And I am not ready, yet, to give up the KISS principle in screen design.
But as to users automatically adopting Windows ... I spent a few painful
minutes with a technologically impaired woman I otherwise respect who is
going to take a lo-o-o-ong time just getting used to the mouse -- even
now! and pull-down menus? We're talking about introducing the Schick
double-edged to flint-nappers here.
