I consider myself a "classical" liberal (the liberal at the
time the USA was born), in modern terms conservative. I don't
consider myself "liberal" as in modern terms as in governmental
intervention via social security, welfare, etc.
My objection to "liberals" in the modern terms is they
usually push for governmental intervention, e.g. environmental
measures, affirmative action, etc.
Sometimes, I think confusion rests with differences of
opinion or view about the inclusion of a topic into "fuzzy
sets" or the "binary ones." I started Bart Kosko's ("Fuzzy
Logic") book several years ago, but have had many other things
getting in the way :(.

Grey is the color of nature, reality. However, I
don't let the grey of nature to allow me to say "anything
goes" as in murder, etc. It is my opinion, to control
human behavior, which is IMO savage, it is best contrained
by family, religion, local community -standards- (which
is a word most who like "grey" don't like), etc and not
by government dictate.
However, a word most who deal in "grey" understand
is "trade-offs." Meaning, our views about government,
etc involve "trade-offs." This leads us to conclude
government can't "solve" our problems without cost elsewhere.
Take care,
John
