Hi, Just thought i'd interupt here.

KG> Hi Jason. My name is Kellie and I attend Sydney University. I am
KG> studying to be a primary school teacher and I am interested in buying
KG> a computer and software as I need to become more aware of how
KG> computers work as I will need to teach my students to use computers. As
KG> you sound like you know alot about computersI was wondering whether
KG> you could give me any hints about what to look out for when buying a
KG> computer. I would appreciate any comments you may have.Thanks.

The main thing about looking for a PC is WHAT you want to use to PC
for... e.g Wordproceesing, games, applications, CAD etc.
& also things like do you want sound & CD-ROm etc

Then you should determine your budget of what you can afford.

you can pick up a new Pentium 100 for around $1500-$1700
( depending on what you want of course! )

Or you could look around for a 2nd Hand One ( which are cheaper )
but the seller may not tell you about conflicts, problems, crashes etc.

So when looking around take someone who knows a little about them.

BTW: just a word of caution DO NOT BUY NAME BRAND MACHINES e.g AST,
Compaq etc.

although they may look good, believe me they aren't. ( I have One :[ )

you usally cant upgrade them, if you do, you have to BUY THEIR parts
'cause there are espically made for that PC. and there are EXPENSIVE
as all S**T

then when you have roughly decided on what you want, shop around.
don't go to one store & accept their price. You can do cheaper.

Warranty & locationn is another thing.
Try and go for a 5-7 years labor & 2-5 years parts, and the location
of where you'll have to travel to get it fixed because most Pc's are
return to base.

I live on the central coast, so if something goes wrong that i cant
fix, i've gotta take it to sydney.

So you'll have ta be prepared to do a bit of travelling =)

and if all else fails gimme a ring on 043-512279 and i'll see what i
can do a deal for.

hope it helps.
