subject: Origin of `Noahide Laws`

Hi George,

Here is another resource, straight from those who see it
as wrong for the "Ten Commandments" to be displayed in US
courthouses, which points to the "Noahide Laws" (in name)
being of rabbinic origin. If you (or anyone) can be bothered,
the PDF file is worth perusing, & scanning for references
to Noahide Laws, Talmud etc. I guess it doesn't occur to
the ADL that it a "separation of church and state" issue
to assert as fact that God gave the "Noahide Laws", and
these are binding on all non-Jews etc etc.

It is plausible that there will be a "push" under the so-called
"Noahide Laws" to establish separate courts for gentiles
("noahides")
to those for Jews, with the "Noahide" courts being subject to the
Sanhedrin.

The Torah narrates several binding legal agreements
between God and human beings. In Genesis, for example,
God directs Noah, the other survivors of the great flood,
and their descendants u in other words, all of humanity at
that time u to populate the earth, not to eat living meat,
and not to shed human blood because humanity is created
in the divine image. Genesis 9:1-11. Eventually, the rabbis
referred to these commands (along with GodAEs commands
to Adam and Eve) as the Noahide commands, which are
binding on the entire human race.

For Jews, therefore, the Ten Commandments are more
than a mere summary of their legal obligations: Together
with the rest of Mosaic law in the Torah, they express
JewsAE self-understanding as a people chosen by God from
all the nations of the world to have a unique relationship
with Him and who, as a result, bear unique responsibilities.
The Decalogue makes greater demands on the Jews
than the universally applicable Noahide laws, and the
terms of the Sinai Covenant, including the Decalogue, are
unique to the Jewish people.

B. Christianity Rejected Jewish Law but Continued
to Venerate the Decalogue as a Religious
Text Divorced from Its Jewish Origin.
Christianity emerged in the first century of the
Common Era (oc.e.oe) as a Jewish eschatological movement
whose adherents believed that Jesus was the messiah, or
Christ, who would save the people of Israel from the
Gentile-dominated world. As Christianity spread throughout
the eastern Roman Empire, however, non-Jewish
populations eventually dominated the membership of the
Church, contributing to the separation of Judaism and
Christianity. See generally JAMES D.G. DUNN, THE PARTINGS
OF THE WAYS: BETWEEN CHRISTIANITY AND JUDAISM AND
THEIR SIGNIFICANCE FOR THE CHARACTER OF CHRISTIANITY
