DW> Here in Canada, there's usually a sticker on the gas pump DW> that shows the breakdown of the price, with taxes etc.. I'm DW> not sure if these stickers are required by law. In the US such stickers are absent because they are not required by law. These types of taxes are "hidden". State sales taxes don't enjoy this stealth, as the prices marked on items exclude the sales tax. Such exclusion is not required by law, but is a common practice by merchants for obvious reasons. If one prefers that the taxes be included in the price, then one condones the practice of "hiding" taxes from the consumer. According to my reckoning, only a politician would favor this strategy. I can't imagine a consumer prefering this strategy as a matter of convenience. What he is doing, in effect, is making it convenient for the politicians to hide the fact that he is being taxed. ---* Origin: Big Bang (1:106/2000.7) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 106/2000 633/267 |
