I have a ms-dos application that connects up to a FTP software NE2000 card
packet driver and works fine.
However, I need to run the box its on with Windows95. The application
clearly is not finding a tcp/ip socket in Windows95.
The packet driver will not work if I load it during Windows95's boot cycle OR
in the ms-dos box before I run the application. It will work with Windows95
running in ms-dos mode, OR if I load both the packet driver and the
application during the boot cycle... and Windows never starts up. It will
also work when I boot the machine from the A: drive with pure ms-dos 6.2...
I have run across a file called NETDET.INI (in the Windows subdirectory)
which appears to tell Windows95 what it will and won't allow to run... as
packet drivers. It may even provide for the ability to emulate the FTP
packet driver.
Does anyone understand my problem well enough to give me any ideas for
getting the application to work under Windows95?
Other info: The application (called Ksp-mail) runs NNTP and SMTP in ms-dos
onto a tcp/ip lan (I have NO control over the lan or the router). The
application provides a bridge between nntp/smtp and uucp/waffle format
files... to provide Internet e-mail and newsgroups to my bbs.
If your familiar with the Waterloo TCP/IP compiler package then you know
exactly where I am coming from. The application is no longer supported...
but it is the easiest of about 3 different work arounds for putting some
internet access on my bbs.
