I know you've all been wondering what the heck the moderator is doing
  about that nasty "Ellen Kessler" of NWCS Online 1:105/362.0.
  As most of you know, I sent out a blanket netmail to all users as soon as I
  saw those posts. From various clues, I knew immediately that the real
  Ellen didn't post those messages. I wasn't going to post anything
  publicly until I had this resolved; I figured it would take no more
  than a week, maximum.
  But apparently area 1:105 is VERY POORLY run.
  I sent immediate netmail to Skip Guyer, the sysop of that bbs, from two
  different boards. I received no answer. I sent him netmail via the 
nterNet.
  No answer. I got the phone numbers of his bbs, and tried to call in. One
  number was a mail door only, and threw me off line. The other number just
  rang and rang; no answer. I've tried to call daily since the posts
  appeared--it never has connected.
  I finally tracked down his HOME PHONE NUMBER (no easy feat, I might add),
  and called him directly. I got an answering machine, and left a message on
  there. A week later, I have not received a return call, even though I told
  him to call collect.
  At the same time I called Skip, I sent netmail to the Network Echomail
  Coordinator, AND the Network Coordinator for area 1:105. These netmails 
lso
  went out from two different bbses, just to avoid the "Fido ate it" syndrome
  that is so common. A full week later, I've received no return netmail.
  I fully believe this was performed by someone who called NWCS Online and
  either used "Ellen Kessler" as their handle or pseudonym, or else made up a
  new user profile with "Ellen Kessler" as the name. WHoever did it did NOT
  dial into the Bird Info Network and steal the real Ellen's password--the
  attacks did not come from the only bbs the real Ellen has ever used.
  I have a suspect in mind who has good motive for doing this. I refuse to
  post the name until I can PROVE it. But it's someone you all may recall my
  having to "boot" off Parrots a couple months ago for harassing several of
  the users. His netmail address was the same as the bbs from where "Ellen"
  made her attacks. But I cannot prove this until I get confirmation from the
  apparently non-existent sysop. I promise, as soon as I KNOW who did this,
  you all will know too.
  I decided to post publicly, as apparently not all my blanket netmail got to
  everyone, and the public chatter about this problem was getting a bit out 
f
  hand.
  In the meantime, I plan to continue to follow up on this. I plan to netmail
  the even-higher-ups in Fido for area 1:105, until I receive a satisfactory
  reply. If necessary, I will cut the feed to Parrots to the entire 1:105 
ido
  area.
  I have run up an incredible phone bill tracking this person down, but
  I feel it's worth it to keep the echo safe. I think that in the long
  run, the echo will actually benefit from this series of attacks; look
  at all the "lurkers" who have already joined us because of this!
