I use two of those - one to have my fax line ring on one phone line, and the 
other for incoming modem calls on the computer line.  Where I live they're 
called "Smart ring" numbers, and are controlled by a "ring comander."   I 
find it valuable use of lines - otherwise I would need two more lines into my 
house than I already have, and I'm already cluttered (house phone, business 
phone, fax line, modem line, 800 number) - the computer dials out, and the 
smart ring for the modem dials in on the house line.
