Nitin,
     Is this a UK unit?  Please issue an ATi3 to the modem and let us
     know what you find.  You might try the OPTIMA 288 Business modem
     selection.
     As for the 'pulse' that you are getting on the line, I've heard of
     this problem before, and it does wreak havoc on modem connections.
     You might try using the following "AT" command in your init string:
     S10=100.  The value in S10 is the length of time (in deciseconds)
     that a carrier may remain undetected before the hang up process
     is started.  The default is 14 (1.4 seconds).  Increasing the value
     to 100 may help.
