It was about 4500 words.  The editing process is one I recommend to
anyone.  You have to sit and really decide which sentences make the story
move, and which ones are just "too cute" to leave in.  

For an exercise, take an old story and cut it by a third, while keeping
the story intact.  Re-writing paragraphs is allowed.  Keep in mind that
you still have to have a complete story when you're finished....
