"Al Parker" made an utterence to the
drakelist gang

Hi all,
I've seen somewhere else, in yrs past (probably an unimpeachable (or
unmentionable?) source) that what John says is the reason for the amp -
impedance matching. It sure doesn't need amplification. I suspect that
when the CBers discovered it, that Astatic didn't try to enlighten them,
just lightened them of their $. I've been using amplified (and un-)
D-104's for many yrs on many rigs, but keep the gain way down, and make
sure to replace the battery occasionally, when it's voltage goes weak, the
gain goes up. I get good audio reports from the BA crowd, incl. those who
know my natural (foggy) voice. As in all things, discretion is the better
part of valor.
