This is why I deal only with "name brand" hotels like the Hampton Inn chain 
and Hilton, etc.  When I moved out here two years ago, I drove cross country; 
spent 3 nights in various hotels, mainly Motel 6's.  I'll never do those 
again unless I bring my own towels.. theirs are useless.   Another nice thing 
is that many of the mid range and up hotels offer extra perks like a free 
breakfast.  Sure, you're paying a bit more for the room than at Motel 6.. but 
with a free breakfast and a pool I know I don't have to worry about my kids 
swimming in, I feel I'm getting more than my money's worth.  :-)
