*** Quoting Bo Simonsen from a message to Olga Zhegulo *** CS>> Odessa Texas is a pretty nice place too. OZ> Original Odessa is in Ukraine, Odessa Texas is an unauthorised copy OZ> :-) BS> Who is supposed to authorize a city name? :) Hehe well the USA is famous for grabbing ones from all over and using them ¨here. Even New York is a reuse of England's 'York'. Funny is our use of 'Greenville'. Seems most of the time a traveller from east ¨to west hit a 'dry spell' and as they came to a river, called the city ¨'Greenville' so now we have 27 of them in the USA. Texas has a city called 'Paris' too! My favorites though relate to my home area. I come from Clemson SC, so named ¨after a fellow who's last name was Clemson, lost a wheel off his wagon onthe ¨way to the Smokey Mountain pass. He was too lazy to go on further so made his ¨farm there. Clemson now is famous for a college with a decent football ¨(American football) team, a good rugby team, and on occasion, a good basketball ¨team. They are also a premiere graduate program for physics. Anyways, Clemson has 2000 locals and 30,000 students and faculty. The place ¨dries up and goes away in summer vacation. Up the road six miles from the big city of 2000 locals, is 'Six Mile' so named ¨as it's six miles away. It has 600 residents. To tell ya how small the area was, there is another town. Ninty-Six. It's 96 ¨miles from Clemson.... Population is about 275* Origin: SHENK'S EXPRESS, Sasebo Japan 0956-25-2561 (6:757/1) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 757/1 140/1 106/2000 633/267 |
