The two you mention are both functional units as far as I am aware.  The main 
thing to keep in mind when buying a dive computer is that it does not take 
the place of normal dive planning tools.  Always consider the computer as an 
ancillary piece of equipment that suppliments your dive planning tools.  Even 
with the computer you have to plan your dive in advance and dive your plan.
 
Just thought I'd park my soapbox here for a bit.
