So, in a lot of ways, not that different than here, except that some of
your businesses connect it to a summer break as well...  I'd expect your
schools to be taking that longer break...  :)  Christmas tends to be the
only day all year that most retail, including the grocery stores, will
be closed for the whole day.  They also close early on the 24th... but
often will be open for business on the 26th...  Our (locally-based
supermarket chain) Wegmans closed at 6pm yesterday and will reopen at (I
think) 7am tomorrow...  There are a couple other holidays that they
close early, but no other days that they close for more than 24 hours at
a stretch... they are normally open 24/7...  :)
