BG> No, but I'd hoped I was wrong.

Oh well, another hope dashed |-)

There are a few teenagers who operate like that, but there aint
too many of them. They dont think they know everything for nothing
Bill. If you think you know everything, why would you give a shit
about your parents opinions ? You KNOW they are crap. Most of them
eventually come to realise that they DONT actually know everything.
Some die in the process of finding out.

RS> Positive peer pressure to NOT do what you want done.

BG> I can see that, but don't really understand why. Never will either.

RS> It really is a very basic part of how humans have evolved.
RS> Its what gets kids moving away from their parents and operating
RS> independently. Yes, that usually does see some ludicrous stuff
RS> coz they are essentially still operating with trainer wheels,
RS> but there aint no other way to do it, the only way to be able
RS> to make decisions for yourself is to fuck some up.

BG> Sure, that applies just as equally to adults, but we at least
BG> have the intelligence to learn from the mistakes of others.

Yes, and they are only just STARTING to do that. Which is why
they are so damned obnoxious, they KNOW they know everything,
the evolutionary stuff is part of that, its only later that
they do indeed come to notice that its not quite true. And
quite a bit of that IS learning from the mistakes of others.
But they are only just starting to notice that stuff most of them.

RS> Part of the reason they eventually get to notice that
RS> they dont actually know everything is the stuff they
RS> fuck up. There aint no other way for most of them.

BG> So a goodly proportion of them become statistics.

Indeed they do. Unfortunately in modern society its just not
possible to make decisions for yourself without that risk.

BG> Did you know that the greatest killer of teenagers
BG> is alcohol, followed by car accidents? I heard
BG> that on the ABC news tonight, and was appalled.

Sounds like a wowser mangling of the stats.

The greatest killer of atleast male teenagers is actually
suicide. Which is another reason why its not actually a
terrific idea to lean on them too hard, manys the parent who has
got a hell of a shock with a dead kid hanging in the garage etc.

BG> Sure, but he's a public figure, and has a bigger ego to feed.
BG> I don't agree with everything that he says either, but I still
BG> respect his right to express that opinion, regardless. And
BG> unlike most, he's far more often right than wrong anyway.

RS> The think I like about it is imagining the rage
RS> that those he is sledging must be experiencing |-)

BG> Backfired severely this week though. Did you catch the
BG> 2 minute public apology after Media Watch on Monday?

Yeah, hilarious |-)

Even more hilarious when he deliberately played the offending segment
all over again, just to bare his arse at the complaints tribunal |-)

BG> I have to admit that I agreed with the tribunal's
BG> decision to uphold the appeal against Stew.

Yeah, he was clearly faking away like mad in is response to the tribunal.

BG> Oh well, nobody's perfect. |-)

He's been doing quite a bit of pretty obvious coat trailing
about the tribunal too, even making snide remarks about their
name. Forget what he calls them. Be fascinating to see if they
end up shafting him comprehensively eventually.

BG> There are good reasons, but I don't have time to go into
BG> that now. I'm trying to clear as many replies as possible,
BG> as I may well have to piss off to Sydney a bit earlier
BG> than first expected. A family death is imminent. No joke.

Sorry to hear that.

BG> I look upon the English language as a very powerful tool,

RS> Which says sweet fuck all about whether the language is changing or not.

BG> Sure it changes, but not just because some
BG> illiterate cunts are too lazy to learn how to
BG> spell properly. Big difference from simple evolution.

Pity that spelling has evolved itself.
Nice theory, pity about the reality tho |-)
