| subject: | Love of Dog |
When my sister's tibetans spaniel died after being a soul of the household for 11 years she said she did not want another dog. We all say this don't we. After a loss, especially if the pet had been ill for a long time. But I knew better. I even had a dream another dog would come into her life. She's always had a dog in her life. Even when we were kids it was my sister who got our folks to get a dog. My dad always had a dog in his life too. Come to think of it dogs 'go strong' in our family. All my five sibs have or have had a dog. SO you get the drift. After my sister told me she did not want another dog, I had a dream she was sitting out on her porch one day enjoying the garden she and her husband had worked hard to put in. Along comes a big weimaraner. (She had one of those before Yogi came along). She shooed him away but he kept coming back every day. Ad and won her over eventually. I knew deep down in she'd want another dog. When she was ready. So a year goes by and her daughter, a college student living at home wants a dog. You know how this goes. She was working part time so she could pay for the dogs keep. They found a dog someone was giving away at Craig's list. Couldn't keep up with him. Too high energy. My niece agreed tog et the dog trained and follow through with that training. This is were we learned about Ceasar Milan. He is wonderful and if anyone doesn't 'get it' they really haven't read his books. But that is another story. Our story here is about the love of dogs. Even though my sister now takes the dogs for long walks when her daughter has to be at work or school and laments this fact- I reminded her well at least Rookie is getting you out for some good exercise. And I think she likes that. THey have the beaches on English Bay and Pacific North west parks.. There's NO limit to walking/hiking/biking trails in Vancouver, BC... :) Anyway THAT is another story. This is the story of love for dogs. I think truly: No matter what- you might never want a dog again after a loss, but that love never goes away. You either end up giving the live to another dog or you simply channel it into something else. Plants maybe. Or maybe and harder: people. No dog we take on as a pet, can replace another, but the love of them ; for dogs, lives on forever. :) Cind ...
