subject: wiring for RJ-45 (UTP)

Hi Jun!
JM> I read sometime somewhere that I can link 2 computers via Ethernet and
 JM> UTP cable.
JM> I was told that I need to change the wiring a bit like so:
 JM> 1 3
 JM> 2 6
 JM> 3 1
 JM> 6 2
JM> Are the above-mentioned wiring assignments correct? If so, how much
JM> is the maximum length of the UTP cable (Cat-5)?
100 meters, it is correct.
JM> Which view (below) of the RJ-45 connector will show me wire #1 on the
 JM> foreground?
 JM> ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿
 JM> A) ³ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÍÍÍÍÍÍÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛ B) ÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÄÄÄÄÄÄÄij
 JM> À¿ ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ ÚÙ
 JM> ³ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ ³
 JM> ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ
A position will show you first number 1, B will show #8.
JM> If I switch to coax, what type of cable should I use? Can I make the
JM> 50-ohm terminators myself? What materials do I need?
RG58, you can make them yourself. But I'd tell you to use UTP, buy a hub,
they are not expensive and much safer.
