RW> YEp, and I"ve always found these folks to level with me, and discuss
RW> all options. FOr example, with rOxy they told me

We owe it to ourselves to do just that what you did and ask for all
options. Some people don't because they're not aware there are any so
they just go along with what SOME vets think is best for the vet
business, rather than you and your pet.

RW> they could, if I chose refer her to a canine cardiac
RW> specialist that *might* be able to do something about the
RW> heartworm. HOwever at that point we and they discussed it,
RW> figured the best option was to let her live out whatever
RW> remaining time she had as happy as she could possibly be.

Yeah .. if heart transplants were common place, imagine, we'd have
our Patches with us. The compassionate vet will tell you what yours
did. To keep the pet as comfortable as possible.

Isn't a cruel thing though that when you know it's almost time, they
start to act as though there's nothing wrong? They have a few moments
here and there where your denial kicks into gear but alas reality
kicks back in. I wonder about this phenomena. This last spurt. I've
read it often happens in terminally ill humans too. T

It's like oh, I don't know Richard - it's like they're saying I've
still got it in me to keep going! The mind is willing but the body
does not follow.

CH> I like the kind of doctor who lays all the cards on the table. ALl
CH> your options and doesn't play on your emotions. He or she tries to
CH> help you make an informed intelligent choice, rather than the one
CH> that lines his/her wallet.

RW> SO far i haven't found anybody that just plays for the money here.

To be honest we only had one vet like that and one is too many.
Where their main interest lies reveals itself when they suggest an
expensive procedure you realize wasn't at all necessary.
..............

RW> THIs one talked about options, and this one's working for that eye
RW> condition for her, another appointment tomorrow which should give her
RW> clean bill of health. I've heard
RW> mixed reports on the guy more local to me, some good, some
RW> not so. Even if he is a bit cheaper we'll probably remain
RW> where we are unless things change and we see more of the
RW> behavior you describe. sO far though we haven't seen these
 RW> folks exhibit that really.

It's a mix. I think if the vet group is say 'owned' by a dog food
company like HILLS ... where they will NOT suggest holistic methods,
the wallet fill need is more obvious.

now take the small time vet. We had one in Texas who took care of
mostly livestock but took care of pets as an income suppliant. He
was very good! Nice guy. Retired recently. I'm sure he'll be missed.

Now over there down the road is a fancy clinic (kept with freezing
a/c).... ah.. I would not recommend it.
