HI JOAQUIM:

I agree. In fact, I'd like to see TSE become the all platform pervasive
editor that runs on everything from watercooled mainframes, to liquid
itrogen
supercomputers, to palmtop PDA's. In fact, I think (stepping up on the
soapbox here...) The world would be a better place if programmers (and
thers)
didn't have to learn a different way of editing on every platform they
touched.
One of the strategies to achieve this sort of pervasive availability is
making sure that the software supplier stays in business. That means
prioritizing development activities to match market opportunities.
I will go to my grave firmly convinced that BETA format video was superior
to VHS. I would not suggest to a friend or family memeber, however, that
they open a video store with a beta format collection.
Fortunately, I don't think IBM & OS/2 are anywhere close to fate that befell
Sony and Beta.
For my part, I would love to see TSE run on all Unix implementations (where
there is a burning need for a usable editor that cuts across all platforms).
After thinking about it, however, it would be irrational for me to try to
persuade a software developer to attack porting to a platform that is harder
to port to and would drive fewer software licenses than other platforms, no
matter how much it would help me personally.
Mike.
