Hi all. You've gone to a friend's house or that of a family member where there's a new dog? Most dogs (the happy go lucky ones especially) will readily greet new conmers but you should always offer your hand palm down for them to sniff first. That never takes long. Don't let them jump on you. We all know this. BUT here's something I learned from Cesar Milan and trainer who wrote a book similar to his 'be a leader of the pack'.. - if a dog holds back. Ignore the dog. Visit with your friend/family . The dog will see that you are no threat, and eventually come to you. THEN pet him/her. He/she recognizes you as a leader this way. Now if you go to a friend's' house and the dog acts in an unfriendly then it's up to the owner to put the dog in another room. If they don't I'd speak up! (This is assuming the issue is with the dog, not about you.)
