I'll give that a try.  After digging through the log files I was able to
narrow down the problem.  It now works through telnet.  

I did notice that when I got connected I would have to press any key on the
keyboard in order for maxcomm to pass over to bbs side to login.  But I'll
try a cvs checkout and see if that helps.
