subject: wiring for RJ-45 (UTP)

JM>I read sometime somewhere that I can link 2 computers via Ethernet and
JM>UTP cable.
JM>I was told that I need to change the wiring a bit like so:
JM>1 3
JM>2 6
JM>3 1
JM>6 2
JM>Are the above-mentioned wiring assignments correct? If so, how much is
JM>the maximum length of the UTP cable (Cat-5)?
Yessir, your layout is correct and it'll work like a champ out to 100
meters (328ft.)
JM>Which view (below) of the RJ-45 connector will show me wire #1 on the
JM>foreground?
JM> .................. ....................
JM>A) ...................... B) .........................
JM> .. .............. ................ ..
JM> . ........ ......... .
JM> ........... ............
Pin #1 faces you in figure "A"
JM>If I switch to coax, what type of cable should I use? Can I make the
JM>50-ohm terminators myself? What materials do I need?
RG58A/U cable. It's good to 185 meters (607ft).
You could prolly make you own telephone too, but WHY?
Hope this helps...
