Actually I guess it's a March 27th build. :-) Anyhow, now
that I've upgraded to this newer version I finally can now
say that I too have experienced the infamous
"uncontrollably growing swap file" bug for the very first
time. Never had seen it here before :-(
Only twice so far. My swap file grew from it's starting
size of 26Mb (normally never grows above this) to about
150Mb. The process was essentially in what seemed to be a
loop (I was attempting to print an Acrobat PDF file using
the OS/2 Acrobat Plug-in). Now, I know Acrobat has its own
problems. In fact I then ftp'd this file and attempted to
print it using only Acrobat, it did the same thing.
HOWEVER, even after I rebooted and went back to that page,
just loading the page (Acrobat was not called), my swapper
again started growing. Funny thing about this phenomenon
is that even when I am successful at STOPing the page
loading loop (ending the task normally does not work), I'll
have about 512Kb of free memory at that point, then, when
I quit all my Internet programs (Dialer, PMMail, Netscape
etc), I STILL only have that same 512Mb of free physical
memory. Normally when you quit programs you'll see your
free physical memory increase. ?????
I'm using Memsize to monitor this free memory and I have
40Mb of RAM on this iP133/PCI Warp 4.0 machine with no FP's
installed. I like the older version... I never had this
problem before. Although I'd seen others complain of it.
In fact, I was very happy with Netscape 2.02E.
The good news is that if I'm successful stoping this
"loop", my swapper does reduce to its original 26Mb size.
But forever after, the system just maintains the 512Kb of
free memory and increases the swapper automatically when I
load any apps. It's like the swapped pages are never again
released (until a reboot). I'm not running COMMIT or any
other unusual config here.
Anyway, since you asked.... :-)
