Desiree T S On (04 Jun 96) was overheard to say to Lise Maidman
 >>>
DT> Hi, my name is Desiree.
 Hi there
DT> My advice to you is do not trust all the so called professions is
DT> this field. Many of their so called myths and data can be argued
 DT> either way.
Isn't that just the plain truth... As most of us here know it is
very difficult to find a competent doc who _really_ knows a lot about
ADD/ADHD but once you do she or he is worth more than their weight in
 gold (that they often charge)..
DT> I am a mother of two boys, thank god only one of my
 DT> children inherited the ADHD.
Our youngest (now 9) was the "lucky" one
DT> I have done many hidden food sinsitivity test on my son
DT> to see what his triigers are and the triggers still trigger him while
DT> he is on Ritalin. Here are some of them: Any form of
DT> cane sugar (brown, white icing,etc..) honey, glucose, sucrose,
DT> malt, molasses, orange food dye (orange cheddar cheese), caffeine,
DT> chocolate, hydrogenated vegetable oil, red food dye, any food
DT> preservatives and addetives such as MSG, etc...,atificial food colours
 DT> and flavors, alcohol.
It would seem to me that he is allergic to all/most of those things
and what you have done is a form of allergy testing. We considered
going that route with our son but felt that it would have taken
longer to eliminate many things than was acceptable and would also
overlook other, non-food, things. After talking it over with him we
opted to go with testing by an allergist. The doc didn't find many
food allergies but the infamous red dye, chocolate and MSG really
cause a reaction. He's allergic to several types of grass - most of
which grow around here, all the common pollens and dust...common house
dust - there's no way to avoid that last one but we try. Something I'd
add to your list is any cold/cough OTC med that has "tussin" anyplace
in the label or psuedoephedrine (sudafed, actifed) or any of them
with alcohol, any of those will send him sky rocketing. Benadryl has
been working out okay at no more than 25mg every 6 to 8 hours to give
rapid relief from sneezing, coughing, watery eyes. He also gets 3
types of anti-allergen injections every 4 weeks...he was a real mess
before those were started. He doesn't like the shots but would rather
take them than go through the other stuff. Interestingly enough sodas
that are high in caffeine (Mountain Dew especially) seem to have an
overall calming effect - much like some of the adults here who have
said that they drink a lot of coffee seems to help them. We haven't
seen that sugar of any kind has much of an effect either way. OTOH
we know a couple of kids that go ballistic on sugar. Just shows that
 everyone is different.
We are continually learning ... posts like yours help add (sic) to
 things we already know about.
 Best...Bob
... That's just my opinion... and I could be wrong.
