No further ado is needed. Once you restore our calm assertiveness, ignore the dog for awhile. The dog KNOWS from reading your intial reaction he/she did wrong. Besides it's possible it was an accident. My abbie knows where it's okay to be in the kitchen so I don't trip over her. lol. Afterall when we come in contact with them during the collision they to endure a bit of discomfort which will inhibit them from doing that again. CM says never comfort a dog who is begging/whnining/ or acting aggressive because doing so reinforces that very behavior you don't want. Ignore and when they are calm and ralaxed (you can tell by their body lanague)... offer affection. I like how he says too when you are about to go for a walk or give a treat.. have them SIT first. This puts them in calm "submissive" state; follwer state. MOre receptive to you as leader. Did you know that when a dog greets you, the dog should NOT jump on you? Dogs do not jump on ackowledged pack leaders. Anyway I have found using his methods, have worked wonders with our Abbie. She loves to be good! When we are out and she starts to get excited seeing another dog, all I have to do is tug on the leash a little and she settles down. But of course if I don't do that fast enough and she starts getting too excited all I can do is say SHHHHH and pull her away and say 'be good'.. worrks like a charm. On her. May not work on all dogs, but it does work on my Abbie :) (She has a Happy go lucky dogality and loves to please.) Cindy ...
