MR> Ya, I've been taking a break from E.M.S. for the last 2 almost 3
MR> yearsand I find that I really miss it but corporate ambulance
MR> companies haveeaten up the little companies so I don't know, I may
MR> only go back to
MR> dispatching for a Police, or Fire agency.
I thought about dispatch but can't really work the available shifts around
the rest of my family. Up here the trend is getting away from the big
companies and going to more volunteer and semi-volunteer units attached to
the local public safety. At this time I'm helping Half a dozen local
communities put together a regional dive team. In this state the fish and
game team likes to run rough shod over everyone else, I'm talking in general
here as I think that there many individuals on this team who are great but
the current policy gives the select few an unjustified attitude of
superiority and juristiction. At any rate the response time for the state
team is two hours or more with a limited exposure to local water conditions.
A local team should have a better response time and would be working in the
same waters that they are training in on a regular basis. Even given a worse
case scenario the local team should be able to establish the search protocol
and the first or second team coming out of the water when the state guys show
up. We'll see how serious the local guys are when they start to see the
committment that they will have to make.
MR> Yes, the best place near Santa Cruz is Monterey!!! Alot of good dive
MR> operators out of there.
Thanks.
MR> So what area are in you anyways???
Right now I'm living in southeastern New Hampshire. Yes, the water is cold
and No, I'm not planning on becoming one of Steve's neighbors in warm water
land anytime soon. Fortunately or no I just like having four seasons for the
other outdoor activities I do. It is difficult to be a full time instructor
up here but there are some opportunities if you market correctly. I also
like the diving up here with respect to some of the historical wrecks and
cold water species you can't get in warm water locations. Don't get me
wrong, I like warm water diving as well as the next person, but I think the
regional diving has its own appeal. I just might be a bit stubborn about
everyone telling me to head south too, who?? not me, never.

Thanks for writing but I've got to go dso some real work now.

Be wet and well.

Dennis
