Hi Roy,
VL> Ah, depending upon the version of SCDMAX you received,
 RJT> An earlier one, initially...
Well, there you go. SCDMAX02 was released around July 4th of 1995.
Maximus 3.0 didn't arrive on the scene until August 15th or something like
that. SCDMAX03 was released sometime in September to make it compatable with
Maximus 3.0. SCDMAX05 was release around March 30, 1996, with some additions
and fixes.
RJT> Nope, I know what I'm lookin' at there:
 RJT> Area 304
 RJT> FileAccess DISGRACE
 RJT> Download Y:\APPS\MISC
 RJT> FileList E:\MAX3\FILE\Misc_Cd.BBS
 RJT> Upload M:\MAX\FILE\INBOUND\UPLOADS\
 RJT> End Area
Yup, all Max 2 stuff because SCDMAX02 was for Max 2. 8-)
 RJT> I don't use file divisions here.
With eight CD's on-line here all the time, I do. I figure it's just
as easy to edit the .CTL file and add the divisions manually anyway.
RJT> but the one I was referring to above was 02.
Which, as I said, was released before Maximus 3.0 so there was no way
it was going to write 3.0 .CTL files. 8-) I'm surprised that someone still
has that file. I know that I do, but one would expect that.
RJT> I've already hit bunches of stuff where I don't like
RJT> where they put it and so I've had to go ahead and
RJT> generate some more *.bbs files, and then get explicit
RJT> about paths in there. Good thing both max and HLIST
 RJT> like that okay...
Yeah, but SCDMAX will put the *.BBS and *.CTL files where you tell it
to put it and then put the paths in the .CTL file. I'm not sure what you
mean when you say, "I don't like where they put it."

RJT> Does it allow for longer descriptions when you tell it
RJT> to put 'em all on one line? That was a bit of a
RJT> disappointment with the earlier version, in that I
It's a shame that you got SCDMAX02 first. Maximus 2.0 allowed for
file descriptions of less than 256 in length. I forget the exact length now
(255?). Anyway, it wasn't until Maximus 3.0 that file descriptions could be
a little over 1,000 characters. SCDMAX03 and above allowed for the increased
size and even lets you set the maximum length up to that allowed by Maximus
3.0.

RJT> took one look at what I'd ended up with and ran it
RJT> again with the stuff on separate lines, editing that too.
        Ouch! Talk about unnecessary work.
RJT> One other thing I have to add in there for my
RJT> situation, for what it's worth, is a pair of brackets
 RJT> for a download counter. I suppose I could have a go
Let's see. An optional field on the setting screen in SCDMAX that
allows you to put whatever between the date and the start of the description.
It would be placed starting at the setting in the "LEFT MARGIN" field.
Thus, if you entered "[ 0]" in this "COUNTER" field, a file line would look
like:
SCDMAX05.ZIP 64536 03-30-96 [ 0]Description of SCDMAX.....
If that optional field was blank, it would produce:
SCDMAX05.ZIP 64536 03-30-96 Description of SCDMAX.
Or something like this. 8-) Would you need a space between the
brackets and the description (i.e. "[ 0] Description of SCDMAX....")?
Probably.
The only problem would be if SCDMAX is just copying the *.BBS files
without doing *any* editing (i.e. adding/removing dates). I'd hate to stick
my nose in and mess the *.BBS files up.
Let me know what you (or anyone else) would like. It's possible.
                                        Victor

...The opinions expressed are not necessarily those of the management of
Aarrgghh! BBS nor are they worth listening too.
