Georges Claude was a French chemist who introduced the neon lights as a
commercial item in 1910.

I think the company "Claude Neon" that used to be at the top of
Anzac Highway was a branch of the original French company. It is possible
that members of his family came to SA. There is no "Claude" in
the SA phone book.

My guess is that someone was pulling the writer's leg and he/she didn't
bother to check before writing it up
