I've no idea either, but the tearlines definitely indicate FMail.

Not quite.  I was always still going to poll for mail, but had expected to
be using Jack's old V.32 modem, and didn't want to cart ~100Kb executables
all over the countryside at STD rates.  However, I decided to bring the USR
with me after all.  Glad I did now, too.
