The "Virtual" part wouldn't be in conflict, it's a different kind.
If I had my guess it would be a slightly dodgy burned DVD causing the
problem. Anyway, I'd try to install from the ISO directly, rather than real
DVD's, and if he's installing from ISO's already, try real DVD's...
