But they tend to produce "self-hosting" mechanisms of their own
i.e. they "become the platform" (assuming you want your code to
run in a cross platform manner).
Well formed HTML/XML has been the only formalized crossplatform tech where
the platform could be anything which can read *ML.
Both Firefox & OpenOffice deal with *ML files.
