Too true. Many are probably more on the "Win-printer" base,
where a bunch of the printer info is on the host computer.
Just had an issue where we needed to use the Remote Printing function of
Remote Desktop, except the person at home has an HP All in One USB based
device. For the Remote Print function to work, the server needs the
printer driver installed, and you can't install that printer driver without
having the all in one connected to the machine (it's USB). No option to
"connect later" and finish the driver install.
He's taking home one of our HP2100's that we're junking, since it's locally
connected to his laptop via parallel port, and remote prints just fine. We
just moved the Finance servers to Nashville, and people are working from
either the new offices, or from home as need be. He already can print from
Nashville to his desk via Remote Desktop, so he knows that printer works.
