Yes, but Anatoli's case is different. His area lacked the concept of
¨'surnames' and they were possibly forced on them. He's indicated that
it's a ¨bit debatable on which touse for him but he does have one he uses
for 'official ¨stuff' like passports. I gather, he just 'picked one' at
that point.
Not all Russia is Moscow or even eastern. He's at the border to asia along
the ¨pacific coast. Different traditions.
