I haven't seen any studies like that, but I can tell you that of the 40
students in my Social Service Workers course, 15 are from severely
dysfunctional families(severe abuse) and have expressed an interest in
getting into the child protection field. At least another 12 say that their
families were moderately dysfunctional and also see a need for more
intervention into families... the scary thing is ..they refer to all possible
abuse situations not as alleged, but as abusive. They have made their minds
up before even getting out of school that all situations have abuse as part
of the equation.
Anytime they are given a scenario or interview assignment, they probe for
past abuse... regardless of the presenting problem.
