Concerning _Pro-2035_, Jonathan Guy said to Troy H. Cheek in SCANRADIO:
THC>> Continuing my ongoing efforts to bankrupt Radio Shack
THC>> by taking undue advantage of their return policy...
JG>
JG> Oh, I thought that was the "Rental" policy
Oh, I won't deny some of us have been using it as one. I'll have to admit,
being able to take an item home, use it under actual field conditions,
(carefully) take it apart and see how it's put together, then take it back
and try another item... well, it's very useful, and has probably led me to
buy RS products even though similar products at other stores might have been
cheaper/better.
JG> The 2042 "fixes" the auto-store and only stores a new freq once.
So I've noticed in the catalog. I wonder when the 2042 will go on sale
and/or clearance...
THC>> Locking out the 80 or so channels in a bank that you
THC>> don't need takes forever. One of the scanners I
JG>
JG> Maybe, but at least you've got 80 channels in that bank left to
JG> lockout and later open up for new freqs. Most of the other scanners
JG> just have 80 channels left in the whole radio... :)
I know. It's just that, given my current needs, 10 banks of 40 would
actually be more convenient than 10 banks of 100. 50 channels a second
doesn't seem that fast when it's mostly 0000.0000's. I need to go back to
Radio Shack and see which scanner it was that automatically locks out the
unused channels.
JG> Don't forget that they can be computer controlled...
I haven't forgotten. I just haven't gotten that far yet. I mean, I've had
it for two days, and as far as the Radio Shack guys know, I haven't so much
as taken the case off of it. Curiously enough, I think somebody may have
done so in the past. I barely needed a screwdriver to break the case screws
loose.
JG> As far as the auto-store, and some of the other features you mentioned
JG> go, just remember that even as wonderful as the 2004/5/6 are they
JG> didn't have those features...
I know. I mean, I just went off to do laundry. Took my 43 with me, of
course, but left the 2035 running on automatic while I was gone. After
sorting through the 98 channels it located, throwing away the duplicates and
data channels, I've still got 15 'new' channels to figure out. All
automatically, without me having to do much of anything at all.
I remember my first scanner, me stretched out on the couch after work,
scanner in one hand, pen in the other, searching and scribbling, searching
and scribbling...
JG> you can get the 2042 that "fixes" some of the (I hate to say glitches,
JG> but..)
JG> the 2042 is going to cost you $499.99...I don't know about you, but I
JG> can live with quite abit for $170 difference in price :)
So can I. However... Sigh. Not too long ago, paying $170 for a scanner
(let alone $170) was not even tempting. But I'm getting paid a lot better
than I used to be. And here lately every two weeks (payday) it's been go to
the store, trade in scanner, pay $20-$50 extra, and take home the next
'better' model. Repeat as necessary. It's better than layaway!
