NM> It's not surprising that one of the most often recommended books on
NM> adults with ADD is titled, "Do You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Stupid, or
NM> Crazy?"
do you have the ISBN number for this book?? i'm pretty sure that i have
and have had ADD for a long time...
i'm 33 now and remember times in school that were difficult to say the
least. i learned quite differently than others, though... i slept
through most of my classes but aced or scored very high on many of my
tests... study? homework? bah! and no, i don't cheat. i remember one
time, my parents were asked to come sit in on my chemistry class one day
while we were taking a test. as usual, i came into class, put my head
down on my desk and went to sleep. my parents came in about 5 minutes
later and sat in the back of the class. i had no idea that they were
even there! my teacher came around giving out the test papers. he told
me, "wake up and take this test" which i did... i was the first to
complete it. seems that i was always the first or second to complete any
tests... anyway, i made 100 on the test plus answered all the bonus
questions. score? 125 for that test. i was the first to complete the
test and i completed it about 15 minutes ahead of the next student. my
teacher had thought that i was cheating and that was why he had asked my
parents to come in and observe. there was no cheating on my part...
now i have two sons, that live with their mothers, that are on Ritlan,
much to my surprise, anger, and dismay... why? because society says
"Just say no to drugs" but yet here we are using drugs to control our
overactive minds. there's much more deeply rooted frustration in this on
my part so i'll leave it at that...
anyway, i recently saw someone post a statistic that in xx% of
divorices, at least one partner has ADD. the more i watch, lurk, and
read... the more it points to my having it and having had it since
childhood...
NM> I had OCD in addition to the ADD, so when I was told that I wasn't
what is OCD?
NM> "really trying", I had more to consider than laziness. I mean, if
NM> your brain keeps derailing while it counts pickets in a fence, and
i know these two feelings all too well... it's nothing for me to be
having a conversation with someone and get sidetracked on to 5 or 10
other subjects, one after the other, simply by mentioning one or two
words... however, i have this 'knack' for coming back to the original
thread and picking it up right where i had 'jumped the track' and
continuing on with it...
