Ah, yes, you are showing your education to another educated
person.

But I was talking about the "average Joe".

It's fairly easy to say to him: "When the AMPS needle goes to the
side with the plus, you're charging the battery. When it goes to
the other side with the minus, you're discharging the battery.
The bigger the swing to either side, the higher the charge or
discharge."

But try to explain to him all that business about what the
voltmeter should show under different conditions.
