subject: noise?

Hello, all. Recently I've been receiving feedback from a few callers that
they are experiencing noise-like symptoms such as unable to get a clean
connect, screen garbage, dropped carrier, etc.

I got my lines and the caller's lines checked. Even had a tech monitor a
connection with one such caller - he said there was "no line noise - probably
a modem problem". I'm running USR Courier v.everything modems with
Binkley/Maximus/OS2. My modem init string is ATH&B1&H1S10=30S0=1

This appears to be only a problem with callers who have older modems. One
caller who had this problem bought a new modem and the problem went away.
But another who has this problem connects fine to other boards and his ISP -
says I'm the only one he has problems with (he has an Eagle 14.4 modem).
Another is running DOS 3.3 (!), Qmodem, and a 2400 modem. I've suggested
that he upgrade all of the above, but you know how that goes...

Anyway, if you have a suggestion I'd *love* to hear it.

                                      Alan
