i don't know... i've never tried it... if the code still has DOSisms in it,
it may still be restricted to 8.3 or maybe only one dot... i note that
while i do have numerous JAM areas with >8 file names, i do not have any
where i've added a dot and ""extension""... i've not
looked at the code but knowing the history lead to the .MAIL extension
jumping out at me as possibly being (part of) the problem...
