Wanted to discuss the def_showto behavior and handling. I notice some
oddities created by having -> inside the from field. It seems to cause
particular problems with special characters (umlauts).
I modified how it works here but wanted to get thoughts:
For now, I changed it to :
From - To
Alternatives I can experiment with are:
Matt Bedynek -) All
Matt Bedynek (to) All
In addition, I found that with agent at least if I leave this in the
article list that you get the benefit of seeing from/to when browsing
messages. However, if I removed it from the article request when the
pperson replies to a messge it only has their name. I suspect it will
differ depending on the news reader used. Thunderbird appears to use
the header... :(
Also, instead of having unknown or unknown@unknown for all messages, I
tested simply excluding the e-mail address altogether and it works.
The logic I employed was:
1. If a REPLYADDR is present, use this for the e-mail (netmail or
echomail area)
2. If reading a netmail area, zone.net.none.point format will be used
if no REPLYADDR present.
3. If reading echomail, and no reply addr is present, do not include
e-mail at all ... From: Name Only
I abandoneed the zone:net/none as the /'s caused issues for display in
my news readers. If anything I might simply used a dotted notation.
Matt
