JOE TURCZAK spoke thusly to: DICK ROEBELT
JT>DR> Copyright law is federal. Once a [federal] court (of
JT>DR> appeals or higher) makes a ruling, it applies equally in all
JT>DR> the states. I have reason to believe that the latest ruling
JT>DR> came from either the appellate level or the USSC itself. But
JT>DR> I read so damn many cases that they all tend to run together
JT>DR> (in my mind). So I caution anyone to double check. If I am
JT>DR> mistaken then the ruling would only apply to a certain
JT>DR> jurisdiction till another (other) circuit[s] agreed. But I do
JT>DR> know that a ruling was made and ASCAP wasn't at all happy with
JT>DR> it.
JT>Ahhhh, ok, well I guess I better double check then if I ever decide
JT>to do this. But at work we have a radio station on our hold system
JT>and we are being told they are going to have to get rid of it
JT>because of this, I better tell them to check the law about it!
That's strange. Very shortly after the ruling several local county
offices started using a local radio station for the "hold" music.
Except the sheriff's office...they use the public (gvt.) weather
channel broadcast. Now, that's BRUTAL!!!
