It sounds like the Macro Virus 'Concept' to me. The symptoms of this
virus is that it only allows you to save MS Word documents as document
templates (*.DOT). I would get a good virus checker that can detect and
clean the 'Concept' (and other newly emerging 'Macro Viruses') virus
from your word documents.
