I posted this a few days ago but haven't seen it show up on any other
boards I call so I'm posting it again.
Hi folks....guess what I've been doing?:)
Just finished converting a total of 1400 MORE fonts for Geos. That
brings the total up to 3400 Geos fonts. Also just finished the new
catalog. It's broke up into two sets now because of the sheer number of
fonts and the difficulty working with the catalog. So Geofonts"I" has
the original 2000 and Geofonts"II" has the 1400 new ones. Each set has
it's own printed catalog.
Now for some hopefully good news to all. After the fiasco with the
fonts cd that I had tried to get distributed through another party (and
we all know how that turned out) I've learned the hard way that if you
want something done right, you do it yourself. Besides the fact that I
felt so (choose any/all of the following) [crushed, angry, stupid,
embarrassed, like I let everyone down], I decided to do something about
it. I have sat here at the computer for days now, zipping files,
writing/editing file_id.diz', files.bbs', creating directories,
categorizing, and on and on. I've been in touch again with the local
sysop who has a cdrom writer and who is not near as busy now that the
initial flux of cd orders when he first got the cdrom writer is over
with. We also found out that his Colorado tape drive will -Definitely-
read my Conner backup tapes, which makes it much easier than having to
take my machine to him so that my hard drive can be connected to his
system. So I'm going to have him make the cd's for me and mail them
MYSELF.
The only problem (and if my credibility has not been totally destroyed,
then there's no problem), is that I can have one made at the cost of a
basic fee plus an amount per each additional copy plus an amount per
each for the cost of the blank disk. But if I have only one or two made
and go back later for another one or two, the basic fee will apply
again each time. So I thought I would throw this at everyone. To keep
the costs as low as possible, I will take orders until September 15th.
You need to send your order in with a check (postdated for Sept. 19th
will be fine...it will not be cashed or deposited until the disk is
mailed to you). I just need to know that each and every one of the
disks I order made is sold. In these days and times, I honestly don't
have the cash to lay out for something that might sit on the shelf.
I will not wait for a certain number of orders to be reached. On
September 5th, the cd will be made for the number of orders I have, no
matter how many or how few. Does this sound fair and agreeable?
Now for details on the CD. Basically, it has EVERYTHING! There are
3400 fonts zipped up into files that are mostly around 1 meg each. I
wasn't such a glutton for punishment that I was going to zip each one
individually:) They are zipped up by set and alphabetically. ex.
Fnt_a1.zip tells you that the fonts are from collection I and is the
first file that contains fonts beginning with "A" You get the idea.
I've also included my entire clipart collection. You get over 4300
borders, clipfonts, signs, ornaments, dtp type clipart, etc. in the CGM
format that works great with the Geos application, V-Convert. You also
get 257 holiday clips in CGM. All the clipart is sorted and zipped by
categories, all are 300 dpi and in 256 color. You also get over 1100
borders, corners, frames, etc., over 800 holiday clips in PCX format and
I've even included my collection of over 1000 dog breed clipart. Like
the .CGM, the PCX are also zipped by categories, 300 dpi and about 65%
B/W, 35% Color.
Other directories on the CD are: GeoClips (GeoDraw & Scrapbook),
Geos-3D(3D Objects) , Geos-Sys(drivers, pref. modules,etc.) , GeosApps,
GeosGame, GeosIcon, GeosMisc, & Zoom-IZL(Zoomer files & IZL apps). These
directories contain over 250 files that I have downloaded or that I have
made myself. Just the zip files - fonts, clipart and geos files total
over 186 meg right now.
Since I had requests/questions with the other CD offer as to whether it
would be BBS ready, I have tried as best as I can to make it BBS-Ready.
All files have a file_id.diz and each directory has a files.bbs
included. The files.bbs is set up with file name, file size, date and a
description for each file. I've also included an allfiles list that can
be copied and zipped up and offered for download off a hard drive.
For those that order and don't run a BBS, you can always unzip any of
the files, but I am definitely going to have the fonts unzipped in
another directory and possibly the clipart also. This will make it
easier to users to just copy the files over rather than having to unzip
them. And it's a lot easier to use clipart thumbnail catalog programs
if you don't have to unzip the files to a hard drive, a few at a time.
Along with each disk, you will also receive a printed copy of both
Geofonts catalogs. The cost will be $50 and the disk will be mailed to
you by priority mail.
If you don't have a CDrom, I will still copy the fonts onto floppys but
boy does it take a lot of disks! The original 2000 takes 38 disks, the
new 1400 takes 35 disks. That's because a good portion of the original
disks were converted with Alltype and the files don't contain all the
styles, only the regular/normal style, so the files are smaller. Most
of the new 1400 font files are complete sets of styles and families of
fonts and have the full character sets. If you have the original
Geofonts set, I can copy and send the catalog for just the new ones.
Or since we now know that the Colorado drives will read my Conner tapes,
it will be easy to backup the collection onto tapes.
