0n (21 Apr 05) WAYNE CHIRNSIDE wrote to CINDY HAGLUND... -> HEY come back here !!! We have woof woof to do! WC> Pit Bull still contentedly hogging the center of the bed as usual. We're going to be having a new canine buddy soon... brain is cooking up names already but if we adopt from a shelter most likely we'll keep whatever name the sweetie has already unless it needs to be changed. I was thinking this morning how the brain works wrt grief. How you automatically remember things you used to do like dispense medicine for example. You have to make yourself get used to not having to do that anymore. You have to 'break' the habit. And that is not the only habit to break. You have to stop speaking of your dogs in plural form. And catch yourself calling the live one by his buddy's name. And you have to try not to think about that spot he took on your bed... next to you on the couch.. and with you on walks. The brain is a thing of habits. We make them and then we often have to break 'em... The only way to help is to fill those empty places up as fast as you can.. start in on new habits and create new memories. The old habits fade but the memories don't. Yet those memories somehow become less touched by loss. Cherished happily instead. Cindy ...
