We're getting ready to go on vacation in a few days. We're traveling down to
the dunes area on the Oregon coast...which is about as far as a tank of gas
and
$200 (including food) will take us. I expect the campgrounds on the coast to
be
full, but there's a national forest campground about 20 miles inland that we
found last time we were crazy enough to go down on 4th of July weekend...and
fell in love with :) Only 9 sites, but off the beaten path and still close
enough...big sites, a cute little creek to explore, a few trails...and if by
chance it's full this time, we go on to the next one. It doesn't have any
water, but we always do ;)
I've started school at home the week after public school let out. We do a
couple days of bookwork (or computer) and a day of "field trip". The rest
seems
to be incorporating school into everyday life. Now that I'm getting into it,
I find myself leaning a little towards the "unschool" philosophy for many
subjects. It seems to work best, but it unnerves my husband. He likes to have
bookwork done that he can see.
I've also had "PE". We go hiking once a week at a park, and I teach the older
girls to swim on another day. I never was one for regular school PE, even
hen
I was in school.
As far as fall is concerned...let's get through the summer first. Eleanor
still
wants to homeschool all year. Rebecca wants to go to public school, which is
ironic because she doesn't make friends there easily nor does she march to
he
beat of the school's drum. Usually she's in some other dimension somewhere.
n
fact, she's the reason I thought of homeschooling in the first place. I think
it would be better for her...we'll see how things go.
                                   ...peace...
                                   Alinda Sue...
